6 years ago a shy, skinny, one eared kitten was living in a drain out the front of my house. One day they came into my backyard so I started leaving food out. We named them Wilbur Wilde.

  • After 2 weeks they would eat with me present if I was sitting on the ground on the other side of the deck and didn't move.

  • After 5 weeks they would come close enough for me to give them a treat. After 6 weeks they poked their head inside the house for the first time.

  • After 7 weeks they finally let me pat/pet them and they realised how much they enjoyed them. Around week 8 we realised Wilbur was in fact a girl!

  • By 9 weeks she was sleeping on our bed and would regularly headbutt my face in the middle of the night for a pat.

  • 6 years later she's still sleeping on our bed. She's still very shy and skittish around sudden movements, it took about 2 years for her to get used
  • to having a baby in the house and finally began to acknowledge them once the 2nd child came along! She no longer wakes me up for pats which I kinda miss but I'm so glad she chose me.
